This monumental and influential pattern book was an important source for graphic design dissemination in central Europe. Modernist surface designs like this reflected the avant-garde styles in painting, architecture, interior design, fabric design during the early part of the 20th Century. Geometric and stylised natural shapes were characteristic of this new movement in both the fine and applied arts.
