Chromolithograph  c. 1890

Image: 252 x 162 mm Frame: 310 x 400 mm

Original chromolithograph for advertising and used as crate label for the specialist purveyor, Louis-Gustave Soubiran, Bordeaux. Soubiran was a top supplier of highest quality fresh produce exported world wide. White asparagus has always been prized as being more delicate than its green cousin. White asparagus is grown entirely underground resulting in its pale colour and tender texture and is only available for a few weeks of the year. Soubiran took great pride in commissioning many artistic labels throughout the Belle Époque period.
